When the concept for Third Gate was born, we wanted to bring a new way of thinking about self defense to the New Orleans community. We saw an opportunity to build confidence, promote equality, and teach people from all walks of life to defend themselves, regardless of strength or ability. We’re a group of practitioners with years of experience training and teaching martial arts, including Krav Maga, boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai. What we discovered was that these martial arts could be combined to create practical levels based on our students’ goals, whether it’s to escape a hostile situation, work to fight back, or learn to protect others. Krav Maga is a real-world Martial System for anyone seeking to learn practical, efficient self-defense techniques. Incorporating street fighting and elements from various martial systems, Krav Maga is designed to be applicable and effective in any scenario—and for anyone—regardless of strength or ability. Our Krav Maga Self-Defense classes include techniques against choke attacks, punches, kicks, and ground fighting, as well as counterattacks and defense against weapons. What sets us apart? While many schools teach Krav Maga for self-defense, the Third Gate Defense System is unique. Our founders used their years of experience teaching Krav Maga for self-defense to craft an advancement system based on student ability and preference. The Third Gate Defense System has three levels tailored to specific achievement outcomes: Escape (Level One), Fight (Level Two) and Protect (Level Three). We’ve found that this approach creates a more fulfilling experience for our students, and students at each level receive a body of knowledge that will further their aspirations for self-defense. Within each level, there are multiple belts that must be achieved before progressing to the next. Our instructors are certified and belted through a number of academies, including Krav Maga Worldwide, Evolve Krav Maga, and New Orleans Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
